Retail Therapy: Does it really help?
I like my money right where I can see it: Hanging in my
closet…..Carrie from Sex and the City
I’ll be the first to admit I like shit and lots of it. I love clothes, shoes, purses, cosmetics, electronics, jewelry, and did I mention purses? There’s nothing in the world like walking into your favorite store and spotting that perfect outfit or that perfect handbag. It’s like a light bulb goes off in your head and you begin to imagine wearing that outfit, walking in those 5” stilettos, and pooching down the street with your new to die for handbag. Shopping will make you forget about your problems but only temporarily and it certainly won’t stop that credit card bill from arriving in that mailbox every month like clockwork.
Someone once asked me do I shop to deal with my issues. My first response was ….uh what issues are you referring to may I ask? My second response was I shop all the time when I’m happy, sad, horny, blue whatever! I will admit that shopping has helped me when I was down in the dumps but after I came home and hung the shit up I was still down in the dumps. Nothing had changed with the exception of me
having a fuller closet. The only thing that can help mend broken hearts, repair broken spirits, restore friendships, or whatever you’re going through is time. Everything gets better with time and a few prayers!
As for retail therapy, everyone can use a little. It’s all a part of enjoying life as long as you’re not obsessively spending money and
going into debt. I’m personally a bargain shopper and even though I do indulge, it’s never at full retail price. I handle my business quite well and just happen to look fabulous while doing it.
